So I’ve written this book…

This is all Martin Gladdish’s fault.

There are many things I said I’d never do. Get married again is one of them (so far so good). Own more than two cats is another (I now own three). And write a book.

So it was very annoying when my friend the author, copywriter and magician Martin Gladdish asked me why I hadn’t written a book yet. To make matters worse, he introduced me to his publisher Murielle Maupoint. And of course, she’s brilliant, wise and understanding (how dare she).

Getting started (part 1)

I started to write a book in May 2013. I had written about 12,000 words and then I took a break from it and went on holiday. On my return I looked at what I’d written, decided it was rubbish, and deleted it.

Getting started (part 2)

Some months of inactivity passed.

Two days before Christmas 2013 Elizabeth Telford my 95-year-old grandmother died. In some senses she left us a decade ago, but dementia is a slow goodbye and although I’d been unable to hold a meaningful conversation with her in some years, a funeral gives you cause to think hard about the person who has passed. I remembered how important words were to my grandmother and realised how happy and proud she would have been had I written a book.

I got in touch with my publisher again and she told me something extraordinary. It seems that in the time since we’d last spoken she had experienced a ‘lightbulb moment’ of her own.

Britain’s Next Bestseller

Murielle’s big, fat, audacious idea was to reinvent book publishing, to make it fairer for authors and to give readers the power to decide the books that should make it into print.

Murielle’s new ‘crowd funded’ publishing platform is called Britain’s Next Bestseller (BNBS).

And so ‘project book’ was back on but this time it was serious because there was a deadline involved. I now had just a few short weeks to develop the book idea, complete the manuscript and present it fully proofed and copy-edited (copy-editing is worse than root canal treatment, incidentally) to the publisher.

I stopped doing anything that wasn’t about about the book (including sleeping at night) and wrote until it was finished, all 40,000 words of it. It took me nine weeks to write it and a further seven to knock it into shape. I hit the deadline with a couple of weeks to spare (most unlike me, but I was determined this time).

Now I need your help

Britain’s Next Bestseller is unlike any other publisher or publishing platform you are likely to come across.

The books that BNBS publishes are ‘crowd-funded’ by YOU.

I have been given a target. I need to sell on pre-order 250 copies of my book by 20th June 2014.

If I hit this target, BNBS will give me a publishing deal and 12 weeks later my book will appear in print. If I miss the target the book won’t be published and that will be the end of it.

I need you to help me by pre-ordering my book and telling everyone you know that they can pre-order my book too.

It is priced at £9.99 + £2.50 P&P

What you get for your trouble

When you pre-order my book the following things happen:

1. Your name will appear in the book (and on the BNBS website) as a ‘supporter’ (because you have effectively helped cover the cost of publishing the book).

2. You will receive your copy of the book two weeks before it goes on general sale.

3. I will feel obliged to help you out in some way. I know a lot of people and I know a lot of things. You would want me to owe you a favour. Honestly. Just be careful what you ask for because you may just get it.

Please be assured that no money will be taken from your debit or credit card UNTIL I hit my target. So the soonest your card will be debited is 20th June 2014. If I don’t hit my target your card won’t be debited at all. The BNBS website is very secure. If you have any more questions about pre-ordering, just drop me a line.

What’s the book about?

The book is called ‘Get Your Public Speaking Mojo Back Forever! 50 imaginative ideas to help you communicate with confidence‘.

If is for anyone who has to speak in front of other people (for work, at a family occasion, to promote their business, etc.) but doesn’t enjoy it.

My goal is to help you to find the pleasure in public speaking.

I’ve been a public speaker for 20 years. For this book, I’ve analysed every aspect of what you need to do to ensure that every presentation you make goes the way you want it to. I want you to end every presentation that you make thinking ‘Yes, that was me at my very  best and I know the audience thinks so too’.

Do watch the video at the top of this post as I go into much more detail about why I wrote the book and how it can help you.

A book for people who can’t be bothered reading books

No need for embarrassment. I’m not a big reader either.

To help you get the most from the book I’ve made 50 videos to accompany the 50 exercises that I describe in the book. You don’t have to try all of them and you don’t have to do them in a particular order. Whatever works for you works for me. However, do give some of the exercises a go. You may be very surprised by the difference they make in many areas of your life, not just when you’re making a presentation, but in other areas of your professional and personal lives too.

Please order my book, I beg you

I’m a nice lady. You want to support a nice lady, don’t you?

To place your order please visit the BNBS website.

This book will change people lives, but only if I get this publishing deal. I’m relying on your support. Without you, nothing can happen.
