My ‘Public Speaking Mojo’ book is gifted to 1000 graduates
University of Brighton Alumni Association gifts alumna’s book on public speaking skills to 1000 summer graduates in first-of-its-kind partnership with author & publisher.
A University of Brighton alumna, who is now a published author, has entered into an exclusive partnership with University of Brighton Alumni Association and publisher Britain’s Next Bestseller that sees 1000 University of Brighton Summer 2015 graduates receive her popular book of public speaking tips for free.
Julie Howell (44) from Peterborough in Cambridgeshire studied BA(Hons) Library & Information Studies at University of Brighton from 1989-1992. Since then, Julie has changed careers a few times, working as a disability rights campaigner for RNIB, director of a digital agency and is now an independent confidence coach working with people who have been diagnosed with long-term conditions.
Julie’s book, published last year by Britain’s Next Bestseller (BNBS), is titled ‘Get Your Public Speaking Mojo Back Forever! 50 imaginative ideas to help you communicate with confidence’. In it, Julie shares tips from her twenty years of experience of speaking to audiences large and small around the world.
Almost every graduate profession demands some form of public speaking expertise, even if only at the job interview stage. Graduates may find they are required to address a conference of industry peers, persuade a board of directors, pitch for business funding or simply speak up at a team meeting.
While everyone graduating with a University of Brighton degree this summer does so with all the expert knowledge they need to launch their career, many will find the prospect of presenting their ideas to an audience daunting.
Sam Davies, Director of Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement at the University of Brighton, says, “In this hugely appealing book Julie explains how all of us can become confident public communicators. We found ourselves swept along by Julie’s positive and confident voice and thoroughly engaged by the simple yet effective practical exercises. We are delighted to make Julie’s energising and inspiring book available to this summer’s graduates.”
Julie Howell, author of the book, says, “I am so delighted that my publisher and the University have reached this agreement which will help one thousand new graduates to get their careers off to a flying start. I am a very proud alumna of University of Brighton and so glad to be able to help graduates in such a positive and practical way.”
Julie, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis when she was an undergraduate at the University in 1991, was the inaugural recipient of the University of Brighton Alumni Association’s inaugural Alumnus Award in 2012, in recognition of her work since leaving the University and her mentoring support of under-graduates.
The partnership offers 1000 summer 2015 University of Brighton graduates the opportunity to download an electronic version of ‘Get Your Public Speaking Mojo Back Forever! 50 imaginative ideas to help you communicate with confidence’ by Julie Howell (BNBS, 2014) for free.
The book is available to the first 1000 University of Brighton Summer 2015 graduates that request it (details of how to do so have be circulated to the graduates directly by University of Brighton Alumni Association).
